Dmitry Savvatievich Dmitriev (1848–1915), prose writer, playwright. The son of a wealthy merchant. After the ruin and death of his father, he entered the library of Moscow University as a scribe. Since the late 80s, he has written mainly novels and stories based on material from Russian history. These are excellent examples of historical fiction, painting vivid pictures “from the era” of Vladimir the Red Sun, Ivan the Terrible, Alexei Mikhailovich, Peter I, Paul I and others. D. S. Dmitriev’s novels attract readers with an abundance of factual material, a variety of everyday scenes, and a light narrative style .The novel “The Golden Age” (M., 1902) tells about the era of the reign of Catherine II.
