At first you won’t guess that Grisha, a silent man living with his mother in an emigrant apartment in Yafo, is in fact a wanderer of time. His soul wanders from body to body, from century to century for 400 years: from a dense Polish town to a Venetian ghetto, from there to a Jewish cemetery in Morocco and through a German concentration camp to modern Israel. Like an “eternal Jew” wandering around the world in his disputes with God, Grisha, the most truthful liar in the world, finds no peace. Either because of a crime committed once, or in search of lost love, or maybe just by accident. His mother tries to explain these stories of “rebirth” with real events from his childhood. "There is only one life! - she argues. “Everything else is a metaphor.” The heroes of the novel wage a merciless battle for the reader's heart. Who will win - soul or body, fantasy or reality?
