An essay-pamphlet, but in fact a large article in which the author of Muzprosvet makes a disappointing diagnosis of the modern music industry and predicts its imminent end.
The book deals with numerous crises, which have already been several years characterize the state of affairs in the field of popular music: the crisis of the sound industry, the crisis of music journalism, the crisis of the mainstream, the crisis of radio, the crisis of creative position, and so on until the horizon. Armed with numbers and expert opinions, Gorokhov whips up an apocalyptic psychosis: an attempt to understand what is happening in music today, with what is filling the heads of musicians and critics, inevitably fails. The flood of trash-pop, closed communities of fans of one or another “style” and Internet file sharing are only external manifestations of a crisis situation. The black hole that has opened up in the place of once visible and understandable musical life will eat us all.
