Lewis Grassic Gibbon's novel Sunset Song, first published in 1932, is the story of how the life of a Scottish village, with its farming joys and miseries, is invaded by the First World War. This is a story about how a girl named Chris Guthrie, the daughter of a small farmer, tries to find and save herself, her love and family in the midst of a crumbling old world. The book has been filmed twice: in 1971 as a television series and in 2015 as a feature film directed by Terence Davies.
