“From Balaklava to Inkerman” is the fourth of the books dedicated to the Crimean campaign (1854-1856) of the Eastern War (1853-1856) and a new work by the famous Crimean military historian Sergei Chennyk, whose work has become widely known thanks to analytical publications on the topic of the Crimean War. This time the object of study was one of the most difficult events of the autumn of 1854 - the Battle of Balaklava and the so-called Little Inkerman. The first of them has no equal in the number of myths that accompanied it, the second is undeservedly forgotten. The author, possessing unique bibliographic material, traditionally maintains the same style of historical narration, describing events that have so far remained poorly studied by researchers. Once again, not only the course of hostilities is described, but also the secret springs, logic and hidden meaning of the events of the Crimean War are revealed. Trying to look as objectively as possible at the participants in that war - both the victors and the vanquished - the author successfully compares the fates of prominent figures on the warring sides, among whom are both outstanding commanders and outright losers. Many historical parallels drawn from the events described to the present day help even the reader who is not privy to the details to understand the essence of what happened in Crimea 160 years ago. Sergei Chennyk’s many years of personal military experience fits well into the narrative, thanks to which the reader himself will be able to experience the events, as they say, “from the trenches”, with the look and emotions of a simple soldier and officer. Thanks to this, the book is of interest not only to professional historians, but also to a wide range of those who care about the history of Crimea and the history of the Fatherland...
