Kamil Gizycki’s book “Through Uriankhai and Mongolia”, first published in Poland in 1927, that is, shortly after the events described in it, will allow the inquisitive reader to plunge into the history of the White movement in Mongolia and in the border regions of Siberia with complete accuracy. Gizycki was a direct participant in the hostilities launched by the “whites” as part of the Asian Cavalry Division under the command of Baron Ungern. In addition, by nature Giżycki was an excellent observer, and by his inclination he belonged to keen researchers of the culture, language, customs, beliefs and religions of the Mongols and the tribes inhabiting Mongolia. Thus, we have before us an excellent ethnographic study conducted in a unique historical period. The book will be interesting and informative to a wide range of readers.
