The ability to metamorphose is a universal property of culture that allows us to intellectually and practically transform the world. The book examines in selected aspects the metamorphoses of space, nature, man, and the type of cultural era. A number of chapters are built in a retrospective plan. However, the main place is given to the Age of Enlightenment, which is characterized as an open, theatrical culture, prone to historicism, feminization, esotericism and the cult of gardens. Special attention is paid to their changing space, image and functions. They are analyzed in the context of the relationship between nature and culture, sacred and secular, city and garden, and are shown as a spatial environment that forms a model of the world and man. He himself acts as a “natural” and “playing”, “social” and “aesthetic” person, as well as on the existential borderline of man/non-man.
