Oporsk grew up on the banks of a deep river, along the blue bed of which merchant boats with eastern goods sailed to the western and northern markets and returned again to the East. Historians claimed that the name of the city was given by an ancient border outpost, a small fortress called Opora. In an evil time, she was the first to meet the enemy’s army from the side of the steppe. On days of calm, the outpost received trading guests with their goods behind the oak walls, so that they could rest peacefully on their long and dangerous paths.
