The book discusses a whole range of issues related to the process of grief and overcoming trauma for people whose relatives have gone missing - victims of “forced disappearance” as a result of wars, aggravated political situations, or disappeared due to a natural disaster. The theoretical foundations of this new field of research are outlined and a historical overview of the events of the twentieth century is given, in which the phenomenon of enforced disappearances manifested itself with particular severity. Many years of practical experience in psychotherapy of relatives of missing persons in various settings are outlined, including work at crisis points (wars, terrorist attacks, natural disasters). Particular attention is paid to collective strategies for overcoming traumatic experiences when loved ones disappear without a trace and issues of self-help and mental hygiene of professionals providing them with psychological assistance.
