"Glimmer on the Gap" is a dramatic poem by the English poet Robert Browning, in which the author unfolds the love story between the young nobleman Tesmond and his cousin Gertrude. The relationship between the two arises when they both happen to witness a private meeting of two noblemen on a hunting trip. Even not perceiving his frankness, the young couple decides to keep the "burnt in the hole" out of their friendly circle. However, resentment and misunderstanding cause double pain and sadness to the heroes, which leads to a tragic ending.
In this poem, Robert Browning adheres to the classic traditions of English drama, successfully combining romantic motives and pathos with realistic images of moral dilemmas. "Lightning on the Gap" is a profound story about love, dignity, tragedy and the choices that every hero makes in life.
