"The Pit" is a novel in three parts, written by the outstanding Russian writer Oleksandr Ivanovich Kuprin. The author shows the reader the life of a large Siberian city with all its depths and bottoms. The main character, the miner Nikov, finds himself in a netherworld of social inequalities, experiences disappointments, suffers from desolation and routine. Kuprin successfully recreates the atmosphere of miner's life, giving realism to property relations and class contradictions. "The Pit" is not only a story about the difficult life of an ordinary person, but also a deep psychological study of faith, love and betrayal. This book leaves the reader with deep thoughts about justice, humanity and the inner demons of each person.
