The book Folktales of Slavery in the United States through Interviews with Former Slaves, Volume XIV, Stories from South Carolina, Part 1 is a collection of statements by former slaves that has become part of an important archival legacy. Thanks to the joint efforts of the US Labor Administration and interviewers, it was possible to document the deep feelings, thoughts and experiences of freedom of former slaves during the end of the slavery system.
In this part of the book, the authors have painstakingly preserved the stories of slaves from South Carolina, revealing the details of their life, working conditions and struggle for survival during the era of slavery. The reader will have the opportunity to walk next to the witnesses of these events, hear their memories and experiences, feel the horror of slavery and the strength of spirit of former slaves who became free.
"Folktales about slavery in the United States" is not only a collection of memories, but also a kind of chronicle of suffering, courage and hope of people who lived through one of the darkest periods in American history.
