The book "Professor Unrath, or the End of a Tyrant" is a novel by the German writer Heinrich Mann, first published in 1905. The main character, Professor Gustav Unrath, is the embodiment of conservative and authoritarian ideals. Strictly and mercilessly, he controls the students at school, but outside the walls of the educational institution, his life is falling apart. As events unfold, it turns out that following the rules and imposing strict requirements does not always guarantee success. The author reproduces the atmosphere of social fermentation and changes occurring in German society at the beginning of the 20th century. "Professor Unrath" is an excellent example of literary criticism of authoritarian structures and the psychological depth of the protagonist's image.
