"Memories from the House of the Dead" is a historical novel by the famous Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky, which was published in 1862. In this work, the author describes his impressions of being in exile in Siberia. The book is a unique testimony of the cruel conditions of prison life and the enormous spiritual struggle of the underworld prisoner.
Dostoevsky tells in detail about life in the convict camp, communication with other convicts, strict rules that had to be obeyed. The author does not bypass the topic of the main character's internal and moral struggle with himself, looking for a solution to the huge internal conflict.
"Memories from the House of the Dead" is a rather pessimistic work, but at the same time charged with deep psychological analysis and philosophical content. This book not only gives an idea of life in a penal colony, but also makes you think about universal human values, morality and justice.
