Seventh-day Adventists continue to consider the 1888 Minneapolis General Conference as one of the turning points in the development of Adventist theology. To this day, Adventists still debate the meaning and importance of this conference. In his book The 1888 Message, George Knight addresses the importance of the Minneapolis General Conference session for our time. The material collected in the book provides insight into both the historical and theological principles of the controversy that arose during General Conference. The book focuses on such topics as the connection of the 1888 message with the third angel's message and the "loud cry," the meaning of covenants, general repentance, acceptance or rejection of the Jones and Waggoner message, and the role of Ellen White's position in modern understanding of the meaning of the 1888 message. It is the author's deep belief that "the key message of Minneapolis was to magnify the Bible, to magnify Jesus, and to help us understand what it means to be saved by Him," and it is his sincere hope that a careful reading of this book will not only enrich readers, but also encourage to a deeper study of the Word of God and comprehension of the great Divine plan for the salvation of mankind.
