The book is dedicated to the history of the Popes of the 7th–10th centuries, who played a vital role in the history of Christianity, in the history of the Church in the West, as well as in the history of Italy and other countries of Western Europe during the Early Middle Ages. The book presents biographies of Roman Popes, highlights their activities, and also examines their writings. Fragments of the most important texts of their works are presented in Latin with translation into Russian, many of them for the first time. Not only the role of such undeniably great Popes as Gregory I, Martin I and Sylvester II is studied in detail, but also such controversial figures in the history of the Church as Honorius I or Formosus and his successors. Particular attention is paid to the contribution of the Roman pontiffs to the process of evangelization of Europe and the formation of European culture.

Цей том присвячений важливій епосі в історії Християнства та Церкви, і автору вдалося надати читачеві глибоке розуміння ролі Римських Пап VII-X ст. у формуванні європейської культури та релігійного життя. Біографії таких видатних постатей, як Григорій I, Мартін I та Сильвестр II, написані з великою увагою до деталей, що дозволяє зрозуміти не лише їхні досягнення, але й спірні моменти їхньої діяльності. Особливо вразила наявність фрагментів їхніх творів латинською мовою з перекладом російською, що робить цю книгу цінним джерелом для дослідників та істориків. Хоча переклад тексту в деяких місцях може бути не зовсім ідеальним, загальна якість видання та його зміст компенсують ці недоліки. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто цікавиться історією Церкви, релігійними процесами та культурним розвитком Європи!
