It was the most important day of her life, and for 21-year-old Isla Edison, graduating from college with a worthless degree in vocal performance was a major part of a grand plan. But death in a car accident only a few hours later was not in the plan. And yet, here she is, standing over her own lifeless body, panicking because she crashed the pickup truck her parents bought her as a graduation present. Clearly a bad way to thank them. As if adjusting to the afterlife wasn't enough, Isla suddenly finds herself stuck with Hayden, a gorgeous Brit with bad manners and a penchant for throwing her off cliffs for support.

The worst part is that Hayden is her Guide, and while she fails to complete six impossible and completely random tasks to get to the mysterious Destination, she is stuck with him. Ayla's main problem is that she doesn't know what reaching her Destination will actually entail, and soon the mystery surrounding her new afterlife will prove more sinister than any purgatory she could imagine. Now Ayla must decide whether she will trust the dark and brooding Guide, despite the fact that he behaves like a "bad guy", or risk failing the tasks and facing the unknown one on one.
