Philo of Alexandria, an outstanding representative of the Alexandrian school, who developed the allegorical method of interpreting the Bible and had a strong influence on patristics (Clement of Alexandria, Origen, etc.) and medieval culture Philo was one of several interpreters of the Pentateuch in the Jewish community in Alexandria, and the method was based on the exegetical practice of synagogues. Most of Philonov’s “psychological” allegories are Platonic in nature, although they arose on the basis of Stoic allegory, and are focused on God, on the relationship between God and man. At the same time, most of the psychological interpretations of other allegorists are secular in nature. The biblical works of Philo of Alexandria, some samples of which are presented in this edition, are an allegorical commentary on selected passages of the Septuagint, that is, the Greek translation of the Pentateuch. Philo's enterprise was grandiose in scale, since he systematically commented on the Bible, starting with Genesis and ending with Deuteronomy, and along the way drew materials from other books, in particular the Prophets and Psalms. From the abundance of what he wrote, several treatises are published in this edition, arranged in the order of the biblical text.
