Jesus of Nazareth is a central figure not only for religious history, but also for the entire European culture. But only starting from the first half of the 18th century, research interest in reconstructing the historical fate of this legendary figure appeared in the humanities. Over the 250 years of its existence, the interdisciplinary project, called “The Search for the Historical Jesus,” has attracted many reputable scientists who offered their methodological developments and concepts to solve its main task. Alexey Andreev's monograph describes the most important works, key theories and “portraits” of the historical Jesus created as part of this project. The book will be of interest not only to professional religious scholars and theologians, but also to a wide range of readers interested in the personality of Jesus, issues of New Testament biblical studies and the history of the development of humanitarian thought.
