The Airacobra fighter was the most popular foreign-made aircraft in service with the Soviet Air Force. From December 1941 to February 1945, 4953 Airacobras were sent to the USSR under Lend-Lease, which is 51.6% of all aircraft of this type built, or 35% of all American aircraft delivered during the war. In Soviet aviation, Airacobras were received in mainly guards air regiments. One of the two three times Heroes of the Soviet Union, A.I. Pokryshkin, and 11 of the 27 fighter pilots - twice Heroes - fought on the Airacobra.
