The book studies the phenomenon of indirect expression of meaning in language. Various interpretations of this phenomenon in Russian symbolism, phenomenology, linguistics, semantics, analytical philosophy, structuralism, theories of reference, tropology, narratology, deconstructivism, etc. are compared. Various specific ways of indirectly expressing meaning are identified and analyzed: split, delayed, indirect reference; two-voice, polyphony, antinomic constructions; the loosening of the act of naming, symbol and metaphor; ingentional and attentional couplings, modal and tonal shifts; displacement and layering of focuses of attention, splitting of the speaker’s “I” into private “voices”, their alternating changes, alternations and overlaps; self-reduction of the author’s voice and its degree, the stage of the staged “death of the author,” etc. An attempt is made to bring these and other forms of indirect transmission of meaning into a single conceptual space within the framework of the “phenomenology of indirect speaking.” A version of the “phenomenology of indirect speaking” is substantiated, within the framework of which these and other forms of indirect transmission of meaning are brought together into a single conceptual space. For philologists, philosophers, and a wide range of readers.
