Nicephorus Bryennius (1062 - 1137) - Caesar, dignitary at the court of the Byzantine emperor Alexei Komnenos. At the request of Alexei's wife, Irina, Bryennius wrote notes about the events that preceded the accession to the throne of the Comnenian dynasty, and about the circumstances surrounding her reign. The “Notes” cover the period between the reign of Basil the Second Ducas and the establishment of Alexei Komnenos on the throne, that is, between 976 and 1087.
