In this book I have tried to show rationally and systematically how Greek philosophical thought of the early and middle Byzantine era answers the question of ontology. [...]In the particular philosophical tradition under study, the answers to the ontological question are ultimately concentrated in two basic terms: personality and eros. For Greek philosophical thought of the early and middle Christian periods, the starting point for approaching true being is the reality of the individual; and the method of this approach, which makes the personality accessible to knowledge, is eros.
