Nikolai Alekseevich Osokin (1843–1895) is a famous Russian historian, professor at Kazan University. His work “History of the Middle Ages” (1888) is read with great interest and is distinguished by a lively, fascinating presentation. On the pages of the book we see a whole series of historiographers who have preserved for us the world of a distant era, which not only united antiquity and modern times, but also gave rise to the Renaissance and modern civilization. In the “Essay on Medieval Historiography,” which the author placed at the end of the book, information is presented about Western, Slavic, Byzantine and partly Arab historians and chroniclers.
