Krol doesn't trust females. His brother's queen tried to kill their son and himself when Krol escaped with the cub. She then caught up with him and almost beat him to death, leaving him with scars and injuries. But Krol survived and has been raising his nephew on his own for three years now, in hiding. Unlike the rest of his species, Krol sees the Bond for what it really is, nothing more than a way for selfish, unscrupulous females to enslave the males around them. He was determined that this would never happen to him or to his nephew Rill, the only one who keeps him from losing the remnants of his mind in the wild wilderness. Naomi is a scout leader, so she is not too worried when she finds herself in an unfamiliar jungle. She knows how to survive. What she doesn't know is where she is and how she got here. However, she tries not to lose heart until she discovers Krol and Rill, whom she mistakes for Bigfoot! Due to a misunderstanding, Krol attacks her, but when heavy rain hits the area, they are forced to take shelter together in the same cave. Reluctantly, they learn to trust each other until they become close to each other in this beautiful and sometimes deadly world. After spending several rainy weeks together, they eventually stumble upon Ruth and Moira, two women from Earth who live with Bigfoot and can finally give Naomi answers about what happened to her. Ruth and Moira have settled in well with the local Aboriginal people, and Ruth even has a child with one of them, and Moira is pregnant! With their eyes opened to new possibilities, Naomi and Krol are forced to look at each other in a different light and wonder if they can be more than friends and finally create a real home in this foreign land.
