At the beginning of 2007, readers of “Newspaper in Kiev” saw the first issues of a whole series of articles under the general heading “Notes of an old Kievite.” Their author, Vladimir Zamansky, is really old and truly a Kiev resident - one of those residents of the capital who, with somewhat unjustified pride, call themselves “real” Kiev residents. In fact, there is no subject for pride here, since being born in this or that famous city is not our merit and no merit at all, since this event absolutely did not depend on us. Another thing is that Kyiv is really famous and colorful, equally like its inhabitants. So it’s always interesting to listen to a storyteller who remembers a lot from the life of this city and these townspeople. The book offered to you is the collected notes of Vladimir Zamansky, regularly published in the capital’s newspaper for more than a year. They can be read in a row, or selectively. You will see old Kyiv - pre-war and post-war. You will hear the unique Kyiv speech (as unique as the speech of Odessa residents or Poltava residents, but still different). You will remember your youth if you are already old, and if you are young, you will probably be curious to hear from your grandfather or grandmother that something similar happened to us, and we played “dop-dop” at school, and they also told these same jokes, and the same stories happened to us... “Notes of an Old Kievite” are published without significant changes compared to what was published in the “Newspaper in Kiev”. But the author still added something significant.
